Poster, 'Thinking about HIV?'

Sahir House operates throughout Merseyside, offering support to those living with HIV/AIDS as well as providing training and education sessions. It is based on Dale Street in Liverpool City Centre. It was formed in 1995 from two local support groups, Merseyside AIDS Support Group (MASG) and Mersey Body Positive (MBP). MASG was the first HIV/AIDS support group set up in Merseyside, opening in Rodney Street on 18 January 1985 to provide support for those living with HIV/AIDS and their families. It initially operated as a telephone support service but soon expanded to offer a range of services. In 1987 a group of gay HIV-positive men set up Mersey Body Positive (MBP), based with Mersey Drug & Training Centre on Maryland Street, just around the corner from MASG. MBP offered support, advocacy and access to financial help for people living with HIV/AIDS. In 1995 MASG and MBP merged together under the name of Sahir House, combining the services they offered. Sahir, an Arabic word, was chosen because it means ‘positive’.
